Year 5 home learning W/C 06/07/20



It is really important you stay active! Try to start each day with a bit of light exercise. The Joe Wicks PE workout is really good fun, it's also great for using all sorts of different muscles and it wakes you up too. If high intensity isn’t your thing why not try some yoga or meditation to start your day? Please use the links below.




You should spend some time each day reading a book - aim for at least 20 minutes.

This week your spellings are converting nouns or verbs into adjectives using suffix -al:

Try and include these spellings in your writing activities this week. Share your spelling scores with me on a Friday (test day) and see if you can make your own spelling chart – just like we have in class!

Will you stay on gold? We all want green! Surely, you won’t be on red?


It is really important that you really concentrate on your writing activities and try to include as much Y5 grammar as possible. We have learnt and practised so much this year we don’t want to lose that.

Monday afternoon – Come and See

LEARNING FOCUS 5: The Beatitudes.


Read God’s Story 3 page 82, Jesus the Teacher (SEE DOCUMENT ATTACHED BELOW).  Matthew’s Gospel collects Jesus’ teaching together in what is called the Sermon on the Mount.   Matthew’s Jewish readers would remember how Moses brought God’s law (rules) to the people.  Matthew wants his readers to recognise Jesus as the new Moses, calling people to a new way of living.  (Jesus went up the mountain and sat town and taught the people.)

Read God’s Story 3 page 82 Matthew 5 1-17, A New Way of Living.   Display the text, section by section, to allow for discussion.


  1. Which Beatitude do you like best and why?
  2. In what way are the Beatitudes different from the Ten Commandments?
  3. How does what Jesus says link to Isaiah’s advice from Focus 4?
  4. How does Jesus want us to live?  
  5. How will we be rewarded for living in this way?  


  • Write your own modern version of the Beatitudes which show how they could be used to shape the attitudes and lives of Christians today.
  • Imagine you were present at the Sermon on the Mount.  Write a letter to a friend explaining how seeing Jesus and listening to these words has changed your life.

Tuesday afternoon – Music

In today's lesson we are discussing different colours in music and how different pieces of music can make us feel different emotions.


Wednesday – History

In this lesson, we will be using all of the key pieces of knowledge we have acquired over the course of this unit to plan and write an essay. You will need a piece of paper, a pencil, a ruler and your brain.


Thursday afternoon – Geography

In this lesson we will learn the definition of sustainability and consider what sustainable development means and how it impacts decisions we make in the present. We will think about aspects of our daily life that are unsustainable and compare them to innovations that are making life better for present and future generations. In this lesson you will need a piece of paper, a pencil and your brain.


Friday – Spanish

In this lesson, we will recap our previous learning, then we will be learning how to describe different types of weather in Spanish. For today's lesson you will need some paper and a pen or pencil.
