The Society of St Vincent de Paul has been engaging with young people and education since its earliest days. Today the SVP England & Wales is pleased to highlight its continuing strong links with young people, through the development of its new ‘Mini Vinnies’ programme – a ground-breaking Primary Schools initiative which is seen as having, “the potential to significantly contribute to the future of our Society.”

Our ‘Mini Vinnies’ are a group of children who give up their own time to organise fundraising for a variety of causes. They decide how and who they would like to donate to. They think of their own ideas to make sure that the vulnerable members of our community are looked after They follow the SVP mission:

The St Vincent De Paul Society is a lay Catholic Organisation that aspires to live the Gospel message by serving Christ in the poor with love, respect, justice and joy, and by working to shape a more just and compassionate society.’

Mini Vinnies meet to pray, discuss and support however they can to help make a difference in their communities. Mini Vinnies truly turn concern into action as they use the simple formula of ‘see, think, do’ to find people in need and help them. In our school they help by:

  • Praying for those in need
  • Fund raising for the local community
  • Discuss local and global issues and discuss how they can offer support
  • Look after our Prayer Garden, keeping it tidy, planting and changing themes to tie in with the Liturgical calendar
  • Running food collections for a local foodbank

Our Mini Vinnies are a committed group of year 4, 5 and 6 children, who are supported by Miss Davies.

Who are the Mini Vinnies?

Mini Vinnies follow in the footsteps of Christ and St Vincent de Paul. The Mini Vinnies are the youngest members of the St Vincent de Paul Society (SVP), an international Christian voluntary organisation dedicated to tackling poverty in all its forms by providing practical assistance to people in need. The Mini Vinnies get together in primary schools and parishes across England and Wales to live out their mission of see, think, do, supporting their school community and beyond alongside the SVP.

 Vision Statement

The St Vincent de Paul Society aspires to be recognised as a caring charitable movement offering a “hand up” to people in need. As Mini Vinnies at Corpus Christi, we do this by respecting their dignity, sharing our hope, and encouraging them to take control of their own destiny

The SVP Mini Vinnie Logo

Our logo is based on a Celtic Cross emphasing that SVP’s mission is to help others in a practical way based on our belief in Christ and in his Gospel message. The ring that supports the arms of the cross reminds us of the loving care and concern we have for others.
