Young Carers

Miss Davies, Pastoral Manager, is our Young Carers’ School Operational Lead

A young carer is a person under 18 who provides or intends to provide care for another person who is ill, disabled, has a mental health condition or an addiction problem.

'A young carer becomes vulnerable when their caring role risks impacting upon their emotional or physical wellbeing and their prospects in education and life' (Department of Health, 2014).

St Helens Young Carers Centre is part of St Helens Carers Centre, a registered charity providing free information, advice and support to thousands of adult and young carers in St Helens.

Babble has been created by Carers Trust as an online space where those aged under 18 who are caring for a family member or friend can chat, share their experiences and access information and advice.

Young Carers' Promise

Holy Cross Catholic Primary School has adopted the Young Carers' Promise. The promise was written by the St. Helens Young Carers' Committee who are Young Carers themselves. The idea is that schools can gain a better understanding of what is important to Young Carers whilst in school, enabling them to provide the support needed.
