‘We Care, We Share, We Value’

Phonics and Reading at Home

Reading in Y2

It is important at this stage that your child develops the skills to become a fluent reader at the appropriate level. This will help to build a strong foundation, not only for learning, but also in creating a love of reading. Within class, children will read regularly, including through guided reading sessions, where the children build up their vocabulary, decoding, retrieving and inference skills, as well as being heard to read on a 1:1 basis with an adult. The children are also given opportunities to read regularly throughout the school day. We recognise that reading is an important life skill, but we also wish our children to leave school with a real love of reading that will stay with them for life.
